If you'd like, you can list your vehicle only to buyers looking within your area. Buyers find local listings in the standard browse and search results pages based on the distance they specify in their search. When they find a vehicle close to home, they can pick it up and save on shipping costs.

Auction-style or Fixed-Price formats are your best bet for higher-value cars that might have more local competition or be sought out of your area.

  • You can sell nationally or locally. (You specify your location so buyers know how close you are, but you don't have the option to restrict the selling area.)

  • You have a choice of selling durations.

  • You can decide how much you want to interact with the buyer and whether you'll interact in person or online.

  • You're charged an Insertion Fee and a Successful Listing Fee, along with any listing upgrade fees. (See Motors Fees.)

  • You operate within the eBay system and can use eBay services such as Feedback and problem resolution support.

Auction-Style listings
  • As with other auction-style listings, vehicle buyers bid on your item and you're paid the highest bid at the end of your listing duration.

  • You can add Buy It Now and sell to the first buyer who meets your Buy It Now price.

  • You can specify a Reserve price and end the listing without a buyer if that price isn't met.

Fixed Price (Buy It Now)

When you list a vehicle as Buy It Now:

  • Buyers can purchase your vehicle immediately at the price you set—they don't bid on your item.

  • The Buy It Now price is always available.

  • The Buy It Now price is always available.

If you're a subscribed dealer and don't want to be bound by a Buy It Now price, you can use Best Offer Only:

  • Buyers can submit only Best Offers. You can accept, make a counter-offer, or decline any offer you receive.

  • To create a Best Offer Only listing with a quantity of one, you need to have a feedback rating of 10 or more (or be ID Verified). If you have a PayPal account and accept PayPal as a payment method on the listing, your feedback rating only needs to be 5 or more.

To create a Motors auction-style or Fixed Price listing:

  1. On the ebay.com home page, click Motors.

  2. Click Sell at the top of the page.

  3. Click Sell Your Item.

  4. Select your category, then click Save and continue.

  5. Under Sell to a National Market, click Select.

  6. Follow the directions from there.

Motors Local Classified Ad format

If you're selling a lower-value car, you can save money on your sale using a Motors Local Classified Ad.

  • As in traditional classified ads, you state a price and the buyer contacts you.

  • You and the buyer can negotiate a price.

  • Buyers like this because they can check out the vehicle and meet the seller before the sale. They also save on shipping.

  • Buyers can find your ad when they search for a vehicle, and will find local listings faster when they enter a ZIP code or use the Find Local Vehicles search box in Motors.

  • Your listing is fixed within 100 miles of your vehicle.

  • The listing duration is fixed at 7 days.

  • You're charged a flat Insertion Fee based on the number of Local Classified Ads you place over a 12-month period:

    • 1 to 6 listings: Free

    • 7 to 12 listings: $15 each

    • 13 or more listings: $30 each.

  • There's no Successful Listing Fee. Optional feature and listing upgrade fees still apply.

  • Because your sale is handled off eBay, Motors Local Classified Ads don't include eBay services such as Feedback and problem resolution.

The fine print

  • When revising a local listing, you can't change its category or location so it would appear in search results beyond your local area.

  • If you decide within 48 hours of listing your vehicle locally that you'd prefer to list it nationally, you maybe eligible for a credit of your original Insertion Fee. You never have to send a request to receive this credit. eBay automatically issues the credit to your account as long as your listing meets these requirements:

    • You had an eBay Motors Local Market subscription at the time of the original listing. Sellers listing vehicles in Local Classified Ads on Motors without a subscription aren't eligible for a relisting credit.

    • The original listing was a local listing in a category included in your eBay Motors Local Market subscription tier.

    • The local listing must have been ended and then relisted nationally within 48 hours of the original local listing insertion.
