Adding pictures to your listing helps you increase sales, gives your buyers a more accurate picture of what to expect, and distinguishes your listing from others of its kind. We offer different options for you to upload photos depending on your system’s capacity and your needs.

Free options and upgrade options

You can include one free picture with each listing. The picture appears in your listing and next to your item's title in search results. You can add up to eleven additional pictures for a small fee. We'll store standard-sized copies (400, 200, 96 pixels on the longest side) of your photos on our server, and they'll stay in your completed listing for up to 90 days.

Other picture sizes and display options are available for a single discounted fee with Picture Pack. Or, learn how to use Gallery Plus to enhance your search results picture.

Types of photo uploaders

An "uploader" lets you add or "upload" a picture to your listing.We have three types:  Standard, Basic, or Enhanced. You can also display pictures that are stored on a different site, without uploading them to eBay.

What happens to the picture when you upload Does not compress. Uploads one picture at a time, at full size. Automatically reduces large pictures to fit in listings. Adds multiple pictures at the same time. Standardizes size after upload. Displays status while upload is in progress. Lets you preview and edit your picture from the Sell Your Item form before uploading. Tip: For best quality, upload photos at existing size, and let Enhanced Uploader resize them automatically.

Tip: Before you start the upload process, make a folder of the photos you want to upload, put it in a place you can easily find, and give each photo a name that will remind you what it is.

Using the Standard or Basic Uploader

To add pictures to your listing:

  1. Go to the Bring your pictures to life section on the Sell Your Item form.

  2. Click the Add Pictures button. A pop-up window is displayed that defaults to the Standard tab (the Basic tab will be displayed if your computer doesn't include the Flash software required for the Standard Uploader).

  3. Review your image upload options.

  4. Click the Browse button on the Standard (example A) or Basic Uploaders. This lets you search through your computer's files to find the picture you want to upload.

5. Select the picture that you want to upload, and then click the Open button (example B).

The Standard tab page will be displayed with the picture you've selected for upload (example C). Here you also have the opportunity to select additional pictures for upload for a small fee. You can also upgrade your Gallery listing or order a Picture pack.

If you have trouble using the Standard Uploader, or haven't installed Flash, version 9 or later, you can click the Try the Basic Uploader link in the top right to switch to the Basic Uploader.

Using the Enhanced Uploader

If you are using Windows 2000 and Internet Explorer 6.0 or later, and you have downloaded ActiveX control (you will be prompted to download it if you haven't already), you can use our Enhanced Uploader for faster uploads and more options.

To add pictures to your listing using the Enhanced Uploader:

  1. To enable the Enhanced Uploader, click the "Add/remove options" link on the Create your listing page.

  2. In the Bring your pictures to life section, click the Enhanced tab, and click the Add Pictures button. The Open screen will be displayed with a list of pictures for you to choose from.

  3. Click the picture that you want to upload, and then click the Open button (example A).

The picture will be displayed under the Enhanced tab (example B). You can edit the picture by rotating, cropping, or adjusting the contrast and brightness, before uploading it.

Here you also have the opportunity to select additional pictures for a small fee. You can also upgrade your Gallery listing or order a Picture pack.

Replacing pictures

If you want to replace a picture, first delete the existing picture, then upload the picture you want. If you upload a picture with the same name, both photos appear in your listing.

Self-hosting your pictures

If you want to display pictures that are hosted on another site, click the Add Pictures button in the Sell Your Item form, and then click the Self Hosting tab. Enter the URL of the picture in the Picture URL field. That picture will be displayed in your listing. To display more than one externally hosted picture on eBay, use HTML in your listing.

If you don't see the Self Hosting tab, select the Show/Hide Options window from the Sell Your Item form.
