A Second Chance Offer is an opportunity for you to offer an item to someone other than the winning bidder after the listing ends.

When to use a Second Chance Offer

You can make a Second Chance Offer to someone when:

  • Your item didn't sell because the reserve price wasn't met

  • You have duplicate items for sale

  • The winning bidder didn't pay you

How it works

When you send a Second Chance Offer, the bidder receives a message asking if they'd like to buy the item at a Buy It Now price equal to their last bid amount. It's up to the buyer to decide whether to accept the offer.

For example, if the bidder's last shown bid was $75.31, your offer will contain a Buy It Now price of $75.31.

In a few categories of items in eBay Motors and Business & Industrial, you can specify the offer price as long as it is less than or equal to the item's reserve price. See the list of categories.

To send a Second Chance Offer:

  1. Go to My eBay.

  2. On the Activity tab under Sell, click the "Sold" or "Unsold" link.

  3. Locate the item.

  4. From the Action pull-down menu next to the item, click the "Second Chance Offer" link.

  5. Click the Continue button.

  6. Select the bidders you want to send offers, the duration of the offers, and write a personal message.

  7. You'll receive a copy of the offer email that's sent to bidders.

Canceling an offer

To cancel a Second Chance Offer, type the item number for the offer you want to cancel (not the original item number) into the Ending Your Listing Early form. Canceling is recommended if you want to extend an offer to another non-winning bidder without waiting for the first offer to expire, or if you have more offers open than items available.

  • Bidders can choose not to receive Second Chance Offers by changing their notification preferences for Buying emails.

  • You can't make Second Chance Offers in a Multiple Item Auction.

  • In the unfortunate event that you have an Unpaid Item, you can send a Second Chance Offer to any one of your non-winning bidders to try to complete your sale. However, you should ensure that everything possible has been done to resolve the issue with the high bidder before sending a Second Chance Offer to another bidder.   • You can leave feedback for the winner of the original item and for the buyer who accepts the Second Chance Offer. Buyers, as usual, can leave feedback for the seller.

  • In the following categories of eBay Motors and Business & Industrial, you can specify the Second Chance Offer price as long as it is less than or equal to the item's reserve price.
